CJAE 120: The Dawn of SNL! (The Blues Brothers)

Captain Jack (@JackHeartless) welcomes back Alamo’s own Lauren Knight (@ThatMovieIsFine), as they talk about the big reason Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi left Saturday Night Live at the end of the 4th season: they were off to shoot a movie with John Landis for Universal!

But it wasn’t just any movie…

41 years later, it’s regarded as the best SNL movie ever, one of the best movie musicals ever, and a cultural phenomenon that rolls on to this day. Straight outta Joliet, they’re talking about Jake and Elwood Blues…The Blues Brothers!

CJAE 119: The Dawn of SNL! (Season 4)

Captain Jack (@JackHeartless) and Lemi Atom (@lemiatom) have reached the vaunted 4th season of Saturday Night Live, and everything’s changing. Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi have just returned from filming Animal House and 1941, along with recording a Blues Brothers live album. Everyone on the cast is taking outside gigs, starting production companies, and on their own roads to super-stardom. But the output here, even in spite of 2 of the all-time worst episodes ever, is legendary. From gigantic musical guests to returning characters, to the best one-and-done character in the history of the show, the cast was still on their A-game throughout. Sit back and enjoy as our intrepid hosts continue the look back!

CJAE 116: Parties For NOBODY!

This week, Captain Jack (@JackHeartless) welcomes Alamo Drafthouse’s resident action movie expert Lauren Knight (@ThatMovieIsFine) back to the show! The main topic of discussion is the separate premieres they attended for the new Bob Odenkirk film NOBODY.

Join them as they answer the burning questions: how do premieres happen during a pandemic? What’s it like to drive through the empty Universal Studios Backlot? How does Christopher Lloyd still kick so much ass? And most importantly…does this tie back to JOHN WICK?!

Sponsored by Slingshot House (@slingshothouse), Nightmare Fuel Video (@nightmare_fuel_video), and Faces In Heels Burlesque (facesinheels.com).

Opening theme by Lemi and the Captain.

Closing theme by Del the Funky Homosapien (@DelHIERO).
