Podcast Episode 401: Dawson’s Creek of Reincarnation

Transformation can lead to reincarnation, which you could say we’re going through on this podcast. We are proud and honored to be joined by an old friend and a brand new member of our co-hosting family on this episode, our “Uncle Beek” Jeremey aka Jaims Van Der Beek from Wrestling Twitter. You know him and love him for his humor and memes, so now you can come here for a steaming mug of his hot takes on pro graps.

This week, we talk about all of the stellar – and at times not so stellar – wrestling we’ve already seen in the New Year. From New Japan to WWE to even ROH, it’s a great time to be a wrestling fan and have options. NXT was king again this week, while AEW continued to confound us. And does anyone care about a ratings war? We talk about all of this and more on what will now be known as the start of the Vanderbeek Era. Let’s get schwifty, kids.

Podcast Episode 400: Hurt | Heal

Transformation. Matt Hardy did it to Bray Wyatt and created The Fiend. Now The Fiend has seemed to make it his mission to change his opponents – just look at his gloves – HURT and HEAL. He’s hurt the likes of Finn Balor and Seth Rollins, while he’s arguably healed Daniel Bryan.

We’re hitting a milestone ourselves with Episode #400 as we wrap up 2019 and prepare for 2020. With that, we’ve come to accept our own transformation as wrestling fans. No longer do we glue ourselves to appointment television with 5+ hours of new and live content each week. We’re free to pick and choose what we want, when we want. Beyond the weekly action, there are now talk shows, podcasts, and various other forms of media to ingest.

If you’ve listened to us over the years, you know that with change comes some protest – but I think we’re ultimately headed in a good direction as wrestling content has never been so available and diversified. Don’t care for Corey Graves? Don’t listen to his podcast, and give The New Day’s weekly show a try instead. Hating on the Rusev love triangle storyline? Get three hours of your week back by skipping RAW – you can still keep up with the storylines by watching monthly PPVs or even “This Week in WWE” on WWE Network. None of the above your speed or flavor? Now there’s a solid alternative with AEW, along with the resurging TNA and NJPW offerings.

Here’s to transformation!

Podcast Episode 399: WarGames + Survivor Series 2019 Preview

Red. Blue. Yellow. YES, YELLOW. RAW, SmackDown, and NXT are all vying for brand supremacy at this Sunday’s Survivor Series. Before that even happens, NXT is putting on what is sure to be a hell of a show the night before. Even if you don’t keep up with every weekly show, there’s a lot to be excited about.

Meanwhile, we also break down some items of cultural significance – from Jim Cornette’s racist remarks to ACH taking a stand – there’s a lot to take in with pro wrestling in 2019. Some good – some bad – but lots to learn from it all regardless of where you stand.

ALSO: Make sure and check out Kraken’s NXT / WrestleMania promotion on social media (@KrakenRum), and (just for our listeners) visit contest.thesteelcage.com before the end of Survivor Series to enter to win a special prize pack.

Podcast Episode 398: Sir, This is a Wendy’s

This week, Derek and Josh try and figure out what the heck is going on with WWE 2K20. They also talk about how great NXT has been and what AEW has been doing right (and what they could work on). The Wednesday Night War isn’t so much a war, and really – it’s a good thing for all of us.

Podcast Episode 397: Brock Lesnar is Inevitable

RAW. SmackDown. NXT. Dynamite. NXT UK. Ten plus hours of fresh pro wrestling content is now coming at us on a weekly basis. Throw in a Saturday or Sunday show, and an already out of hand schedule just becomes that more daunting. First world problems, amirite?

Truth of the matter is – there’s a lot of great content available to us, and we’re excited to wade through it at our leisure along with you. NXT and AEW are pushing each other to dazzle us. SmackDown is being driven by a fair bit of FOX Sports influence. RAW is… well, RAW is RAW. We’ll break down the last few weeks and look to the future a bit, as the WWE Draft looms…
