Podcast Episode 280: Backlash 2017 Preview

This week in WWE, Randy Orton made a stand… and got egg on his face.

RAW remembered that they have a PPV coming up in just a couple of weeks, so they decided to book most of Extreme Rules in one night. #1 Contender match! Women’s Championship! Intercontinental Championship! Tag Team Championship! They’ll all be there…

SmackDown, meanwhile, is heading onward to their next big show this Sunday – Backlash! Shinsuke Nakamura makes his non-NXT debut in WWE, among many other things.

…and lest you think we forgot, NXT is putting on a TakeOver show in Chicago, as well. Though it’d be cool to see them do it at a venue like Logan Square Auditorium, they’ll be doing it live from the hallowed Rosemont Horizon (Allstate Arena). We’ve even got a UK special airing on the Network on Friday to lead into that. Friday + Saturday + Sunday = LOTS of wrestling coming up.

Let’s…. Dive… In.

Featuring: Joshua Schlag (@thesteelcage / @schlizzag), ‘The Mayor of Reseda’ Derek (@cap_kaveman), Psyniac (@rawispsyniac), and ‘Super Jew’ Jared (@SuperJew75).

For most of the last 30+ years of my life, I've been watching WWE. As a kid, Monday Night Raw hooked me from the start. From Bret Hart and Razor Ramon, to Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, to CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.. I've witnessed the ups and downs and I'm proud to have enjoyed pro wrestling through the years.

Though I now watch in a much different fashion than I did when I was a kid (finding out Vince McMahon was the owner and Jack Tunney no more than a figurehead was like finding out Santa Claus did not exist), I feel like I have a much greater appreciation for the hard work pro wrestlers do and the things they sacrifice to entertain us.

It's still real to me, dammit!
